On October 2, 2019, the City of Mart was approved for a $330,000 grant to improve water towers in the City of Mart. Originally, the City requested to use the funds to rehabilitate Hawkins Tower (pictured) however after more thorough inspections, costs to fully restore the tower were estimated at over $1 million. The inspections also rendered the tower as a public safety hazard, which prompted the demolition of Hawkins Tower. The remaining grant funds have been reallocated to Mart's other two elevated storage tanks in town, Lumpkin Tower and TYC Tower. Using the grant funds, TYC Tower will be repainted, get lighting and electrical upgrades, and receive driveway and yard surface improvements. Lumpkin Tower will receive coating improvements, as well as a new climbing system, and perimeter site lighting. Both towers will also have new mixers installed.
